During the time that the old Museum existed, many Newhaveners generously provided the community museum with pictures of Newhaven as it used to be, family pictures and other memorabilia. These items were accepted by the Council, under which auspices the museum existed, as donations and not as loans to the surprise and disappointment of some. In the 12 years since, digital capture of old photographs have become commonplace and affordable.
Consequently, Newhaven Heritage undertakes to keep any old photographs or documents only for as long as takes to scan them and return them to the owner unless explicit permission is given to Newhaven Heritage for the artefacts to be retained.
For the moment, because of the coronavirus crisis, Newhave Heritage will not be in attendance at the Police Box but in the interim, it is hoped that people will have time on their hands to look through their old photo albums and collect together pictures of life in old Newhaven and bring along when the Scan Saturday service resumes.
